Scott Custom Ceilings started in 2013 when Billy Scott saw something Central Illinois was missing: a contractor who actually specialized in acoustical ceilings.

Meet Billy Scott, Owner

Billy is a Central Illinois native. From 2001 to 2012, he worked for a large acoustical contractor in the Carolinas, handling commercial, institutional, and architectural ceiling projects — everything from standard grid systems to specialty metal, wood, and fabric designs. That decade-plus in the field taught him what separates a ceiling that looks good at handoff from one that performs for years.

Why He Started the Company

When Billy moved back to Illinois, he looked for a position that would put those skills to use — and found a gap instead. Central Illinois had plenty of general contractors, but nobody focused specifically on acoustical ceilings the way commercial projects often require.

So in 2013, he started Scott Custom Ceilings to fill that need, bringing large-market ceiling experience to Decatur, Taylorville, Springfield, Bloomington, Champaign, Effingham and the rest of Central Illinois.

What That Experience Means for Your Project

A ceiling contractor who's only ever worked local, small-scale jobs doesn't always know how to handle a complex commercial layout, a tight acoustic spec, or a suspended drywall grid system that has to tie into mechanical and electrical work already in place. Billy's background working large commercial and institutional projects means Scott Custom Ceilings can take on that complexity — while still giving Central Illinois clients the direct, personal service a bigger outfit won't.
